Training

Before the indentation 2021 symposium, a training course on instrumented indentation will be proposed in the form of two half-days.

Master or doctoral students are the primarily intended audience. in this frame, this training could serve as credits for doctoral schools programs.

It is also aimed to technicians, engineers or researchers working either in private or public laboratories.

Two hands-on Workshops will be proposed on the Finite Element Method analysis of indentation tests on bulk materials (Workshop 2) and coated materials (Workshop 4).

Tuesday, 12th october - Afternoon

Workshop 1: Fundamentals, from hardness to instrumented indentation, 01:45 to 03:45 PM

The first part of the course is dedicated to the understanding of the fundamental differences between the widespread methods in hardness measurements and the instrumented indentation.

Workshop 2: FEM analysis of indentation in bulk materials (Abaqus), 04:00 PM to 06:00 PM

In this hands-on, the Finite Element simulation of indentation tests on homogeneous bulk materials will be studied through different case studies.

Wednesday, 13th of October - Morning

Workshop 3: indentation on natural and synthetic fibers - Thin films, 08:00 to 10:00 AM

In this workshop, the specific case of indentation on natural and synthetic fibers will be adressed. A particular emphasis will be placed on the fibers investigated at IRDL.
